“I don't want to grow old gracefully
I don't want to go 'til it's too late I'll
be some old man in the road somewhere
Kneeling down in the dust by the side of the Interstate”
~Warren Zevon, musician, died 2003, sober 18 years.

I just told someone that I often ask,
“What did I do to deserve this?” when I stand in awe of the blessings
in this old drunken junkie’s life. Then, I quickly say my prayer of gratitude
that I didn’t get what I deserved. I believe in miracles,
and I believe in gifts, and I believe in the 12th step.
If I want to keep it, I must give it away.
These poems and pieces are my debt of gratitude.
I humbly offer them so that others might say, yes, I felt that way,
or I’ve been there, too.
I'm just one addict/alcoholic reaching out for another.

The memory of Rosie the dog, and seven cats…
The peacocks only come to visit.
