1.Sobermusicians.com is a privately owned website, inasmuch as you can own electrons on the internet. The domain name and hosting space are, however, privately funded, so yeah, it's a privately owned website.

2. So what does that mean? Pretty simple really. We'll get into more details about what's allowable and what's not in a minute, but it means that should you decide to start posting stuff like, oh, let's say hate propaganda or child pornography, you will not be consulted before your account is locked up and your email address and I.P address reported to your Internet Service Provider.
That's what it means.

3. In order to become a member, you need to provide a valid email address. Our software cannot activate your account without sending you an email with an activation link you need to click. If you enter a dummy address, or one you do not have access to, you'll be waiting a long time before being able to post on the boards.

4.Only one registered account per person, please. If you lose your password, for some reason, and can't retrieve it, do not create another account. Use the 'contact us' link at the bottom of every page, and we'll get you back in so you can reset your password.
Any dual accounts we discover may be terminated, although we'd much rather discuss it first.

5. Profanity... Use your common sense. Although some of the more powerful objectionable words have been blocked, the censoring feature of this software is something we really would rather not have to keep a close eye on. Comport yourself with dignity of language as much as possible.

6. Obscene, adult material... No posts, or links to sites containing pictures, sounds, animations of a sexual nature. If you're looking for stuff like that, enter any choice word in a search engine, sit back and enjoy a couple million page results. But do it on your own bandwidth.
Additionaly, because of the nature of our community, posts or links to sites containing glorification and validation of drug and alcohol use will most likely earn you an invitation to discuss such posts or links with one of your peers in the community, in private.

7. No attacks, insults, or flames - be it on someone's person, religious beliefs, race, national background, sexual orientation, recovery program or whatever. This is one of our most important principles. If you have a problem with somebody, do not flame them on our boards. Take it somewhere else. No flaming of ANY kind is welcome here. The quickest way to get a permanent seat outside in the rain is to ignore this simple guideline.

8. Posting Etiquette... It's polite to try and stay on topic in a thread another member has started. However, given the nature of who we are, we'll probably tend, at times, to wander off in directions that will appear to have no rhyme or reason in relation to the original topic of a thread, except to us, I suppose. That's the beauty of this button, Use it, and use it a lot:)

9. The moderators and administrators of sobermusicians.com are unpaid volunteers. It's not cool to take them to task publicly on the boards, in the unlikely event you have a beef with any of them regarding forum issues. Private messaging comes in real handy for these instances.
This being said, that's pretty much where the boundaries of good taste end in relations to the Forums Team.

We are first and foremost members. And as such, enjoy no special privileges in terms of our opinions and beliefs when we decide to share them in the discussions on the forums.
