Happy Birthday, Step-Daughter.
I only know you from pictures,
you seem such a lovely young lady.
I wish I knew you in person,
but that is not meant to be,
for reasons that I don't understand.
I know you best from the big love that your Dad has for you.
And all the things he has told me about you that he holds in a special place in his heart.
I think there is a time in the future where you and I can get to know each other.
And I look forward to that, very much.
Until then,

My sister's response to something I heard about this week was this:
"If we could live in perfect trust of the Universe and It's plan for us, life would be so blissful!"
True enough.
And it made me think of Dan Fogelberg's song, "Part Of The Plan".
Lord, how I miss that man.
I cried the day he passed.

I have these moments
All steady and strong
I’m feeling so holy and humble
The next thing I know
I’m all worried and weak
And I feel myself
Starting to crumble.

The meanings ge

Sixty-one years ago today,
a handsome young Coast Guard officer and his lovely bride,
promised to share life together.
Their path wasn't always easy, but they stuck it out.
So I imagine they will have a dance or two on Heaven's dance floor to celebrate.
Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad.
I feel your light all the time.

Just for today, I am grateful.
Grateful for a husband who loves me.
Grateful for my wonderful children.
Grateful for friends who support me.
Grateful that I choose to walk in grace, most of the time.
Grateful for Mother Earth, and the daily blessings she sends us.
And grateful for the tough Irish women who came before me, and the strength they left along the path.

I was watching "Driving Miss Daisy" last weekend.
Hoke says, at one point...
"I like pictures. They make a place a home."
I can't say that it's just the pictures that make my place a home.
They are a part of it, but not all of it.
Home is my safe place, my retreat from the busyness of the world.
It's where I'm comfortable.
It's where I can kick back and just be myself.
Home is where I read and write.
It's where I have my best meals.
There is an incredible sense of comfort and ...More Read More

Yesterday, I spent a good bit of the day celebrating my nephew's birthday.
It's a special day for me, I was at my sister's house the day he was born.
I was in charge of taking care of my niece while my sister and her husband went to the hospital for labor and delivery.
I remember the first day he came home, all tiny and new.
I remember when his sister first laid loving eyes on her baby brother.
I remember seeing a new baby boy, about fifteen months before I was to have my first, new ba ...More Read More

The mourning dove sits atop my chimney, and sings his five note song.
Over and over, he chants the same five notes.
They echo down the chimney, a simple, doleful refrain.
This is the song of pre-dawn.
As light just begins to dapple the sky.
Soon other birds will join in with the mourning dove.
Then, just before the sun rises, they will all take a respectful pause.
In reverence for Sister Sun.
Thus begins a new day.

It's a hot summer day at the lake.
The shade of an old tree and the breeze are the only things that keep me from leaving.
The ducks and geese seem lazy, even though they have the water to cool them.
A few people pass by, but not many.
Too hot for most to go for a long walk today.
Sunlight glimmers off the ripples in the lake.
When it's quiet, and there are no people about, I hear The Lady Of The Lake in those lapping ripples.
She calls me by my given name and speaks to me in the ol ...More Read More

If you have not read/viewed the Harry Potter series...go no further.
As this will make no sense to you.
Should you have followed that adventure, read on as I speculate.
It's taken me a long time to digest the last book in the series.
I somehow can't put it down, because that is saying goodbye to something I have followed for years, and dearly loved.
The idea that there is not another "Harry Book" yet to come, makes me sad.
So, as I re-read, and cling to the last Harry book, knowing t ...More Read More
